Competitive Link Analysis

This method of building backlinks is an integral part of any good SEO campaign, and any semi-experienced marketer with even a hint of SEO knowledge will agree that the best way of ranking your own site for a specific keyword is to find those who are already ranking for it and ‘steal a few ideas’.

If you want to be the best Driver in the world, you study how Michael Schumacher does it. If you want to be the best Golfer in the world, you study how Tiger Woods Rory McIlroy does it. Same rules apply online – it’s only logical.

Of course this process of researching your competition is an incredibly tedious one which usually involves:

  • Doing a Google search for the Keyword,
  • Listing the Top 10 ranked sites,
  • Assessing their incoming links and PR using a variety of tools like SEOQuake.com and then
  • Using a tool like OpenSiteExplorer to analyse where those links are coming from.

And that’s just creating a list of potential backlink pages! We still need to go and visit each of these pages/links individually and either comment or see how we too can get a backlink from them.

“Get Ready for a Breakthrough in LinkBuilding!”

That’s what they would have you believe anyway. But is Backlink Profit Monster really all it’s cracked up to be?

Let’s find out…

My Backlink Profit Monster Review

Powerful linkbuilding software for monster profits

What Does Backlink Profit Monster Do?

Backlink Profit Monster (BPM for short) is an automated piece of software that:

  • Analyses the top 10 ranked sites for any given keyword
  • Finds and lists any BLOGS by PR
  • Creates a list of these links
  • Autoposts your ‘comments’ to the list once created.

Potentially, this product has the ability to automate what is an essential part of my own linkbuilding campaigns and will significantly cut down on the time it takes to do it!

How Does Backlink Profit Monster Work?

It works by automatically analysing the backlinks of your competition and filtering through them to give you those which are both do-follow and have a high Pagerank.

BPM then provides you with the option to automatically post ‘comments’* to those links, effectively giving you hundreds of relevant do-follow links on high PR blogs.
*Before you start thinking SPAM, remember that it is not what the tool does but how you use it that makes the difference at the end of the day. (stick with me because I will show you exactly how to use BPM to get the most out of it)

Let’s see it in action!

I’m going to take you through the process of how I use Backlink Profit Monster.  This should give you an idea of how it works as well as give you some insight into how best to use it

Step 1: Enter Your Keyword of Choice

I’m going to start with a keyword that I am targeted for one of my niche sites (may as well get some SEO work done while I show you the tool right?!)
So I begin by typing in ‘Lightweight Strollers‘ into the required field.

A guide to using Backlink Profit Monster ( I do love the familiar interface I have to say)

Now I simply hit the import button and let the software fill in all the fields:

Using Backlink Profit Monster to analyze the SEO competitionIn less than a minute BPM lists the top 10 ranked sites for that keyword as well as the Pagerank and approximate number of backlinks.

OK Already I am quite happy with this new tool. Sure, Market Samurai can give me the same sort of results – but it’s what happens next that is truly amazing.

Step 2: Pick Your Competition.

Now that you have the results, you want to start analysing all their backlinks. How many of those top 10 URLs you analyse really depends on how tough the competition is, but since the tool makes it so quick and easy, I figure why not investigate them all.

Of course it makes sense to start with the site that is most vulnerable with the fewest links and the lowest pagerank. In this example it’s kinda obvious:
Newlightweightstroller.com, let’s see what you’ve got.

Using Backlink Profit Monster to steal Competitors backlinksSpecify min. PR and check the ‘Blogs Only’ option (since the idea here is to leave a comment and get a link)

  • *Awesome Feature Alert*

You can also replace the URL with any of your choosing within this screen, meaning you can analyse the backlinks of any site you wanted. Perfect for working on your Client’s sites!

you can analyse any URL you choose with Backlink Profit Monster

Going back to the example, Backlink Profit Monster tells me there are 584 backlinks pointing to newlightweightstroller.com. Let’s see how many of them are Blogs where I can comment?

I am glad this came up as an example, because this is the reality of SEO, and really has nothing to do with the software. Basically it means that this site has built their rank without using backlinks from blogs. They may indeed be contributing content to static sites and using other methods of link building that do not involve blogs in any way. Such is life.

In this case however, the results are actually really really good.

Why?
About 5 seconds after this screen shot was taken I copy pasted the URL into my browser and paid them a visit. The page in question was a blogpost with a PR3 and an open comments section that was do-follow! I took the time to leave a thoughtful and valuable comment, linked to my lightweight stroller site and left.

The comment is still awaiting moderation but here are the facts:

  • BPM helped me find a relevant and high ranking (PR3) page
  • I left a genuinely valuable comment on the post.

The chances of me receiving a relevant do-follow link from a PR3 page are very very high at this point.

OK so only 1 result, but a total of 3 minutes saw me attain an almost guaranteed do-follow PR3 link. Can’t complain about that!

How about some other results?

Let’s check out Strollers.com. They have a PR of 3 and according to BPM, 5,869 incoming links:

better results from bigger SEO competition is normal
The Bigger the Competition, the better the results. Generally

That’s better. You usually find that the bigger the site the better the results. There is one thing I noticed that bugs me, and it’s probably the only real issue I have with the software. Internal links!

You will notice that a lot of the links returned are actually internal links. I have spoken with the developers about this and I am expecting a future release to have the option of filtering these out, but in the meantime it is something you just have to put up with.

Now that you have all these potential links what do you do with them?

Step 3: Filter your Results and Export the List!

Once you have enough links to do something with them you will want to filter them to remove the no-follow links as well as specify how many Outbound Links (OBL) you want as a maximum*
*There is no point getting a link from a page that has 1000′s of outbound links on it already as your link would have little or no value what-so-ever.

the clean list ends up looking much nicer for link building

I specified a max. OBL of 200 and a Min. PR of 3. I then hit the Filter button and the list is cleaned up quite nicely. In this case nearly all of the internal links have been filtered out  too. Bonus :)

  • Once you are happy with the list you can hit the Export button and it will save the list of links as a txt file.
  • Repeat this process over and over again for each of the top 10 ranked sites.
  • Choose another keyword
  • Do it another 10 times!

By now you will have at least 30 lists of links saved, all with at least 30 or so links on them. That’s 900 high ranking do-follow pages that you could potentially get a backlink from!

Step 4: Autopost your Comments!

This is where the software really starts to work its magic, but to be honest, I am still debating whether utilising this feature would work in your favour. Let me explain how it works so you can formulate your own opinion.

  • Open Backlink Profit Monsters Blog Poster.
BPM has a seperate program that takes care of the ‘Posting of Comments’
  • Import the list of links that you have saved from previous searches.
You can copy as many lists as you like (so the hypothetical 900 backlinks above could all be added to create one mammoth list)
  • Fill in the Post Data Fields, consisting of: Name-Email-URL-Comment
This will be used to autofill each field when the software comments on your behalf so you can choose to use a keyword instead of your name.
  • Hit Start and go and have a coffee.

Now even without this feature I think Backlink Profit Monster is a fantastic tool and welcome addition to my SEO arsenal – but the potential this feature gives the software is incredible. BUT. (there’s always a but!) It honestly depends on what keyword I was trying to rank for and what niche I was in as to whether I would utilise the Blog Poster feature.

There is a time and a place for AutoPosting

I am sure you will agree that the method this tool uses to post comments is borderline spamming. OK its total spamming, who am I kidding – and this is why I would be careful when I used it.

Remember earlier when I only got one result from a low PR site? Remember how I then visited the page and left a valuable comment.
Well that was a PR3 page that was highly relevant to strollers and the baby niche – and is too valuable as a potential backlink to lose to a spammy ambiguous comment.

I guess what I am trying to say, is if you already have faith that your site is climbing in rank and you just want to push it that extra step with some quality backlinks then by all means, autopost away.
If however you are in a niche that is hugely competitive and every little bit counts, then I would seriously consider using this tool to find the links and then manually submitting the comments yourself.

(I’ve spent a total of maybe 30 minutes manually checking links and from that I have at least 10 do-follow backlinks from relevant pages where the PR is at least 2. That’s time well spent in my book)

Who is Backlink Profit Monster For?

Anyone who wants to rank their pages higher in the search engines could benefit from what this software can do.

What do I Like About Backlink Profit Monster?

  • It brings back the results I need relatively fast
  • No captcha codes. (Uses Yahoo API so not required)
  • It filters the links to find Blogs only (Can’t comment on a static website)
  • Streamlines an integral part of any good backlinking strategy.
  • The Support is excellent, with the boys responding quickly and diligently to my inquiries, as well as taking all my feedback on board and using it to make the software better for upcoming versions. (yep, that’s right – it’s all me)

It just makes my life so much easier when it comes to analysing my competition and obtaining the same backlinks they have!

What do I Not Like About Backlink Profit Monster?

  • The results also display internal links (useful if they are blog posts with open comment threads – which they have not been so far)
  • Some of the links I checked did not have open comment threads at all (meaning obviously that the link in question would fail miserably when going through the Blog Poster.)
  • You can only install/run the software on 1 PC! (I have written to the guys about this hoping it is something they can rectify in future releases)

Summary of Backlink Profit Monster.

I have been looking for a piece of software that could help me with the blog commenting aspect of my link building campaigns. I have always known that blog commenting is an extremely effective way of building backlinks to any site (in blogging you get instant traffic from click throughs, in organic search those links accumulate to give your site the SEO juice it needs to compete) and so it is something I have always made sure to include whenever I am trying to rank a site.

The part of this process that kills me however, is finding where to comment in the first place. I have tried using Google but the best link I ever find is PR1 page that is not even that relevant to my niche!

Now that I have Backlink Profit Monster it’s a different story.

I’m really excited about the potential this has namely because throughout the course of this review, I have managed to find and secure more then 10 high PR backlinks! And I haven’t even fired up the autoposter yet!

Backlink Profit Monster Bonus!

As a special bonus for anyone who buys BPM through me. You now know what this software does, so check this out:

Backlink Profit Monster relies on blog commenting to build backlinks, but when you are autoposting hundreds at a time, the approval rate starts to drop dramatically. You’re in SPAM country now, and the only way to get out successfully is to be ambiguous and conniving, and this is where I step in.

Spamming It Up. The Comment Domination Guide

I have prepared a list of comments that you can use as is or tweak to meet your needs. These comments will not only see your autolinks getting approved considerably more often, they will also leave the blog owner wondering when you will be back to ‘continue the conversation’ LOL.

*This also increases the odds of you using a keyword as a name and STILL getting the comment approved.

Along with this list of framework comments I have written a detailed guide on how to make the most of blog commenting, as well as a few little tips and tricks you can use along the way.
